What Are Ferrite (Ceramic) Magnets?

Ferrite magnets, also known as ceramic magnets, are permanent magnets made mainly from iron oxide
combined with either barium or strontium carbonate. They are one of the most widely used magnetic
materials in the world thanks to their low cost, excellent corrosion resistance and stable performance
in a wide temperature range.

Compared with rare earth magnets such as neodymium (NdFeB) and samarium cobalt (SmCo), ferrite magnets
offer lower magnetic energy but significantly better price-performance ratio. In many high-volume
applications – especially in motors, speakers and magnetic holding systems – ferrite magnets remain
the most economical choice.

Ferrite magnets are also very resistant to demagnetization and do not require special coating in
most environments. Their ceramic-like structure makes them inherently corrosion-resistant, which helps
reduce the need for additional surface treatment and simplifies long-term maintenance.

We supply both anisotropic ferrite magnets (with a preferred magnetic direction)
and isotropic ferrite magnets (magnetizable in any direction) according to your
application requirements.

Key Benefits

Why Global OEMs Still Choose Ferrite Magnets

  • Very competitive cost per piece for mass production
  • High electrical resistivity – lower eddy current losses
  • Good stability in wide temperature range
  • Excellent corrosion resistance without coating
  • Flexible shapes & sizes for different designs

Ferrite Magnet Grades, Shapes and Magnetic Properties

We manufacture ferrite magnets in a wide range of grades and geometries, including discs, blocks,
rings and custom motor arcs. Below is a typical overview of common hard ferrite magnet grades. Actual
available grades can be adjusted to your project requirements.

Common Shapes and Dimensions

  • Disc magnets: widely used in speakers, sensors and holding tools
  • Block magnets: ideal for motors, magnetic chucks and industrial fixtures
  • Ring magnets: preferred for loudspeakers, motors and rotating devices
  • Arc (segment) magnets: mainly used in DC motors and generators
  • Custom shapes: available upon drawing or 3D model

We can support dimensional tolerances according to industrial standards or your specific request.
Magnetization direction (axial, diametral, multi-pole) can also be customized for your design.

Typical Magnetic Properties (Hard Ferrite)

Grade Br (mT) HcB (kA/m) HcJ (kA/m) (BH)max (kJ/m³) Max. Working Temp.
C5 / Y25 380–400 190–210 200–220 26–29 ≤ 250 °C
C8 / Y30 400–420 200–220 210–230 30–34 ≤ 250 °C
C11 / Y35 420–440 210–230 220–240 34–38 ≤ 250 °C

and application requirements.

Manufacturing Process of Ferrite Magnets

A controlled manufacturing process is the foundation of consistent magnet performance. Our ferrite
production line follows a stable process route from raw materials to final inspection, ensuring each
batch meets your magnetic and dimensional requirements.

  1. Raw Material Preparation

High-purity iron oxide and barium/strontium carbonate powders are accurately weighed and mixed
according to the required grade formula.

  2. Pre-sintering and Milling

The mixed powder is calcined at high temperature to form pre-sintered clinker, then milled into
fine powder with controlled particle size to achieve the required magnetic properties.

  3. Pressing in Magnetic Field

The ferrite powder is pressed into shape using wet or dry pressing methods. For anisotropic ferrite,
a magnetic field is applied during pressing to align the magnetic domains.

  4. Sintering and Cooling

The pressed green compacts are sintered at high temperature in a controlled atmosphere, forming
dense ceramic magnets. Cooling rate is controlled to optimize microstructure and stability.

  5. Machining and Grinding

After sintering, magnets are machined and ground to final dimensions. Surfaces can be processed
to meet tight tolerances for motor slots or precise assemblies.

  6. Magnetizing and Full Inspection

Magnets are magnetized to the specified magnetic direction and strength. Dimensional, appearance
and magnetic inspections are carried out before packing and shipment.

Applications of Ferrite Magnets

Thanks to their competitive cost and stable properties, ferrite magnets are used in a wide variety of
industries. Below are typical application areas we serve for global customers.

Automotive & Motors

Automotive Systems and DC Motors

Ferrite magnets are widely used in small DC motors for wipers, window lifters, fans and pumps. Their
high resistivity and stable performance at elevated temperatures make them reliable for automotive
environments.

Audio & Speakers

Speakers, Headphones and Buzzers

Ring and disc-shaped ferrite magnets are the mainstream choice for loudspeakers, headphones and
buzzers. They offer a good balance between magnetic performance and cost for mass-produced audio devices.

Appliances & Tools

Home Appliances and Magnetic Tools

From refrigerator compressors and washing machines to magnetic hooks, magnetic bases and holding tools,
ferrite magnets provide durable and corrosion-resistant magnetic force in daily appliances and tools.

Ferrite Magnets – Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some of the most common questions about ferrite magnets. If you have a specific
technical question or need support for a new project, please feel free to contact us.

Are ferrite magnets strong enough for my application?
Ferrite magnets have lower energy compared with neodymium magnets, but in many motors, speakers and
holding applications they are strong enough and much more cost-effective. Whether ferrite is suitable
depends on your design, available space and required magnetic force. We can help you evaluate the
best material option.

What temperature can ferrite magnets withstand?
Standard hard ferrite magnets can typically operate up to around 250 °C in many applications.
This is higher than most neodymium magnets. For applications requiring frequent thermal cycling or harsh
environments, we will review the working conditions and propose suitable material grades.

Do ferrite magnets need surface coating?
In most cases, ferrite magnets do not need any special coating because the ceramic structure itself is
highly resistant to corrosion. However, if your application requires specific appearance or bonding
requirements, surface treatments such as epoxy coating or painting can be applied.

Can you customize ferrite magnets according to my drawing?
Yes. We can manufacture custom sizes and shapes based on your drawings, 3D models or samples, including
arc segments for motors and special blocks or rings for industrial equipment. Please share your drawings,
tolerance requirements and yearly volume so that we can prepare an accurate quotation.

What information do you need to quote ferrite magnets?
To provide an accurate quote, we typically need: material grade (or application), shape and dimensions,
magnetization direction, quantity (trial order and annual demand), any special tolerance or surface
requirement, and delivery location. If you are unsure, just describe your application – our team can
help you define key parameters.

How do you ship ferrite magnets internationally?
We can ship ferrite magnets by sea, air or express according to your needs. For regular orders, sea
freight is usually the most economical option. For urgent samples or small batches, we can arrange
air or courier shipment from our factory or regional warehouse to help you shorten project lead time.
