Samarium-Cobalt (SmCo) Magnets

High-temperature permanent magnets engineered for critical applications. Stable, corrosion-resistant, and ideal for aerospace, motors, sensors and harsh environments.

What are SmCo Magnets?

Samarium-Cobalt (SmCo) magnets are high-performance rare-earth permanent magnets made from samarium (Sm) and cobalt (Co). They deliver exceptional thermal stability, excellent corrosion resistance, and strong magnetic performance—making them the preferred solution for extremely demanding environments from −273°C to 350°C.

As one of the earliest rare-earth magnets, SmCo remains the best choice where thermal performance, reliability, and dimensional stability are mission-critical.

Key Features of SmCo Magnets

Thermal

High Working Temperature

Continuous operation up to 250–350°C with minimal irreversible demagnetization—ideal for high-temperature motors and aerospace systems.

Stability

Excellent Magnetic Stability

Low temperature coefficient and outstanding resistance to demagnetization ensure long-term stable performance in precision applications.

Durability

Corrosion Resistance

SmCo is inherently corrosion-resistant. In many environments, magnets can be used without coating, reducing process steps and risk.

SmCo Magnets – FAQ

Is SmCo stronger than Neodymium?

Neodymium (NdFeB) is magnetically stronger, but SmCo offers superior high-temperature stability and corrosion resistance.

Do SmCo magnets rust?

SmCo has very good natural corrosion resistance. Coating is optional and mainly used for assemblies or extreme environments.

SmCo5 vs Sm2Co17 – which to choose?

Sm2Co17 provides higher energy product and higher working temperature. SmCo5 is easier to magnetize and may be preferred for certain designs.

Can you support custom assemblies?

Yes. We design and produce SmCo-based magnetic assemblies including rotors, couplings and sensor components with full engineering support.
